2 Kings 22:1-2 Josiah was eight years old when he became king. He ruled 31 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah. Adaiah was from Bozkath. Josiah did what the Lord said was right. He did good things as his ancestor David had done. Josiah did not stop doing what was right. (ICB version)
Now the people of Judah had turned away from God. They worshiped idols.
They built alters for the Baals in the house of the Lord. This made God angry.
So King Josiah cleared out all the idols. He broke down the altars for the Baals. He read the Book of the Law given by Moses to the people of the land. The people started turning their hearts back to God.
Then Necho king of Egypt marched his army through Judah. King Josiah went to fight against him. But it was not King Josiah's battle. God warned him to let King
Necho's army pass through.
King Josiah disobeyed God. He disguised himself and fought anyway. An archer shot King Josiah in battle. But God still loved him. God kept his promise. King Josiah was buried with his ancestors in his own tomb. It was just as Huldah had prophesied.
Have you ever made a bad choice? I know I have. And the outcome wasn't so good. But God loves you and me, too.
God gives us rules to keep us safe. That is why we must obey Him. God wants what is best for us.
